It’s day three in the Week of Gatsby and today I’m bringing it back to one of my favorite movies, Moulin Rouge, and favorite costume designers for film, Catherine Martin. She’s been working with Baz Luhrmann since Strictly Ballroom, got two Oscars for Moulin Rouge (nominated for Best Art Direction in Romeo + Juliet and Costume Design in Australia), and has been married to Baz since 1997. Her work in Moulin Rouge was such a defining point in the movie, much like it’ll be in The Great Gatsby, by caring about intense details you’ll never even see but that only add to the characters. Fun fact: for each cancan girl, each costume was individually designed to represent a specific fetish! From promo pictures of The Great Gatsby, it doesn’t look for a second like Catherine Martin’s lost this quality and here’s hoping we’ll be seeing her name again this awards season!

In this post, I have to give a credit to Tiffany for the jewelry collection that is made for Luhrmann’s movie The Great Gatsby. The collection is made in a collaboration with the Oscar winning costume designer, Catherine Martin. You remember Moulin Rouge? I believe, she is a hard working/super talented designer.
I can’t really decide if my favorite work is The Savoy headpiece or bracelet-pearl-diamond-ring. And it’s not a secret, if the brooch is priced 200,000; the headpiece can sell easy for up to 1Mil. Price upon request…
